Elizabeth

Elizabeth, originally uploaded by Richard Adams.

I like this because of the naturalness and the asymmetrical composition. The sky also is wonderful. The movement of the hands and the smile give a sense of actual activity, of being caught on camera in the middle of something. Continue reading ‘Elizabeth’

Shepperton Lock, a very still River Thames

The title of this says it all. However I have had a particular fascination with moving water that is mirror like. It’s something that amazes me about the lochs and fjords. These immense bodies of water can be incredibly glass like and serene. Whats amazing about this shot is that it is of the River Thames.

Reflected sunset, The (lacking) Heart, Walton on Thames

I really like this one because it takes the soulless architecture that is being built in towns and brings out a side of it that one always wants to exist… Continue reading ‘Reflected sunset, The (lacking) Heart, Walton on Thames’

Self Portrait

Self Portrait, originally uploaded by Richard Adams.

This is a self portrait I took in my bathroom. In common with many people we have recessed spotlights in there. I noticed that standing under one while the next one’s bulb had gone gave me this dramatic directional lighting. Continue reading ‘Self Portrait’

Turner-esque?

Turner-esque?, originally uploaded by Richard Adams.

More lo-fi phtography ramblings.

This was also taken with the cameraphone in panorama mode. Because the fous is not alterabel it focussed on the steamed up car window and gave me this distinctly Turner-esque effect.

It isn’t in Fact Norham Castle or anywhere rustically romantic, it’s the car park in Staines…which all goes to prove some point or other I am sure…

Yellow Flower

yellow flower, originally uploaded by Richard Adams.

I have been quite suprised by the positive reaction to this photo. I was in the reception area at work and took this with a Sony Ericsson K800i…it was quite hard to get the macro working that well but the end result is quite beautiful. However…. Continue reading ‘Yellow Flower’

“Out”

out, originally uploaded by Richard Adams.

This photo seems to have gained a lot of attention from viewers. I like it becasue it has lovely rich colours and renders a mundane scene with some humour.I think it’s this depiction of everyday life that is its real appeal although the slightly over saturated colours do have a certain attraction. Continue reading ‘“Out”’

River Mole, early morning

I took this photo on the way to work one day. It was around 8.30am in early December. The river was absolutely still and the grass was frost encrusted. The sun was just coming up directly ahead as you can work out from the reflection in the water. I took the photo and it worked beautifully. I think the atmosphere is terrifically calm and zen like. The black water colour (a trick of exposure) and the gold grass and white sky make a photo with a fragile frozen cold beauty. Continue reading ‘River Mole, early morning’

southend pier jan04

southend pier jan04, originally uploaded by Richard Adams.

This has been one of my favourites for a long time. It’s of Southend Pier in Essex which is/was a mile long. I was there not long after sun up and this shot was basically an accident of the atmospheric conditions. I took several from similar angles and they all had the sepia tone which was caused by the angle of the sun and atmospheric conditions. I think it looks almost Victorian in this pic - which of course the pier was. Continue reading ’southend pier jan04′

Jet Age

Jet Age, originally uploaded by Richard Adams.

I loved the chance to photograph this oddity in Woking. The sun and sky combined with the silver feel of the plane combined to make it look very ‘Jet Age’. It also looks really dynamic and interesting, not least because the office block next to it is so close…I think the only thing I could have done to complete the jet age experience would have been to use a fish eye lens. I am intending to buy a Lomo fish eye camera for fun… so I may yet go back there. Continue reading ‘Jet Age’
