Trees, Goodwood

Trees, originally uploaded by Richard Adams.

I like this for the simplicity.

It was taken on a very long lens and from the top of the hill opposite. I like the pattern, the simple colours and the sense of space created by the focal plane effects.

The place was on the Downs at Goodwood in Sussex…

Squares, building, red, blue

Squares, building, red, originally uploaded by Richard Adams.

Amazing what you see when you look above the shopline on buildings. This was a wonderful cold to hot colour spectrum reflected in a stainless steel building in Sheffield. I was struck by the colours but pleased with the way that the geometry plays with the grid.

It’s a nice contrast with the previous picture.

Shepperton Lock, posts and boats

A rather postcard-y typr pic but I was pleased withe haziness, teh colour and the stillness. So many people are currently producing photos of water that use long exposures to turn running water into a sort of fog like effect that it’s refreshing to look at non movement.

Shepperton Lock is a nice place to visit and the Thames Court pub is a great place to sit and eat by the river…

neon 6

neon 6, originally uploaded by Richard Adams.

I love taking pics of neon. Neon light seems to bleed beautifully and give a painterly effect. Of course this used to work better on film because the grain used to bleed too. I think though that a series I did on Polaroid film were the best as they came out looking like oil paintings.

If I can find them I will scan them and post them I think.

A pic taken with my iPhone where everything just went right.. this is not modified and is straight out of the box. For one glorious second the light was just awesome.

Bleak Seascape

bleak, originally uploaded by Richard Adams.

I love the English seaside, it’s at turns exhilerating, hot, cold, bleak, welcoming, fun, depressing, ugly and beautiful… and of course so are the people. It’s at the seaside that we see so many cariacatures that in past times have poulated the work of authors and film makers, artists and photographers.

This is something we should celebrate and promote. It’s something that is a unique part of our cultural and societal heritage.

This photgraph has a brutal simplicity and cold grandeur that arise form the minimal natuire of the composition, colour and subject. I was pleased with the almost lo-fi colour and the simple composition. The steel blue sky and the cold grey sand are beautifully complementary and the fact that this is taken on one of the most beautiful beaches we have adds to the impact.

Logans Run? Bank Tube Station

Logans Run? Bank Tube Station, originally uploaded by Richard Adams.

I couldn’t resist this shot of a corridor in Bank Underground station. The lighting, shape and emptiness reminded me of so many scifi films from the 70’s. It reminded me of Logan’s Run, Buck Rogers and many more.

I think that the lonely figure in the distance gives the picture a focus it wouldn’t otherwise have had.

That walk between the northern line and the Waterloo and City line is a terrific set of tunnels and a fantastically atmospheric walk when it’s empty of people.

Post processing

Post processing, originally uploaded by Richard Adams.

I loved coming across this. I love abstracts and when I saw the beautiful curve and the black on white I just had to snap it. It’s been terrific taking pics in the snow as you can get some lovely bleached out shots.

I was wondering why more people weren’t walking by the river but I guess they don’t like the cold even tho the views were beautiful. The light was fantastic and the snap of the cold on your breath was sharp and clear.

Romantic River

Romantic River, originally uploaded by Richard Adams.

A favourite spot of mine, this is…the River Mole in Hersham in Surrey. On cold mornings it always looks beautiful across the meadow as the sun rises straight in front of you. This time I decided to attempt a romantic feel to the pic – simple blurring but mixed with the beautiful colouring I thought it came out wonderfully…
